Finland->USA transformers

If you want to use electrical equipment intended for the US market in Finland, you need an intermediate transformer that converts our 230 volts to the 110 volts required by the equipment. We have a large selection of different transformers for different purposes.

Instructions for choosing the right transformer:

Power: See how much power the device needs from the mains (input power, often reads next to the mains plug on the back of the device, etc.). Choose a slightly larger transformer than this reading. The margin must be 25%, ie the 1000VA (1000W) transformer can be used with the 750VA / 750W device.

If the power is not read anywhere, you can calculate it by multiplying the size of the fuse (eg 3A) by the mains voltage (eg 110V): 3A x 110V = 330VA, ie you need at least a 500VA / 500W transformer in this case.

Earthing: Almost always the intermediate transformer must be earthed (not earthed), ie both plugs must be earthed (Output connector: 3-pin NEMA female connector (USA mains plug)
If you use a guitar amplifier with an isolation transformer, the device must be earthed. If the USA amplifier has a 2-pin power connector, it should be replaced with a grounded one.
If the device is to be used in which it is transported (eg gig use), the housing must be metal. Plastics do not withstand continuous movement but are intended for desktop use.
The transformer changes the mains voltage by the conversion ratio, ie it does not change the frequency (EU 50Hz, USA 60Hz) and does not stabilize the voltage. If the mains voltage in Finland rises, the output voltage of the transformer also rises, etc. The frequency is often irrelevant to the operation of the device. Some old devices (eg motors, clocks) may be synchronized to the mains frequency, which changes the rotational speed.

Also, note that if the device has a motor inside it might need 10 times more power at startup. So 230-110 transformer has to withstand this kind of power spike.

We cannot give any guarantee for our 230-110 transformers if they are used with equipment that has motors inside!
