UralTone 5F1 Nos Toaster Tweed kit

UralTone 5F1 "Nos Toaster" is a further development of the UralTone 5F1 v2.0 kit. The idea behind the design of the kit is, on one hand, to lower the price of the kit by using tubes other than traditional guitar amplifier tubes, while still maintaining or even exceeding the sound quality factors.

By compromising, for example, on a compatible socket wiring (6N2P preamp) or available output power (6DG6GT power tube), the amplifier can still use easily available and reasonably priced NOS tubes. However, this is not an exercise in extreme exoticism, and the amplifier can also be built to accept more common amplifier tubes (12AX7 etc.). The lower power output allows the use of a smaller and more affordable power transformer, as well as a power stage that breaks up more easily.

Which should I choose, the UralTone 5F1 Champ 2.0 or the Nos Toaster?

Both are excellent small amplifiers for studio, home and even gigs. The NOS TOASTER’s special feature is the NOS tubes, which cost a fortune for the 5F1 Champ. The NOS Toaster also has lower output power and earlier breakup. If you only play clean tones, you should choose the Champ for its greater headroom.

Due to the different tubes, the characteristic sound is slightly different, so of course you can always build both!

Can I get support if needed?

The prices of all products include technical support. Support for kits is unlimited via email. We are unable to provide support through other channels.

If you cannot get the device working with the instructions and, if needed, our guidance, our service department will locate and fix the issue. If there is more extensive correction needed in the build (e.g. all wiring is excessively long, solder joints are poor throughout, etc.), we will instruct the builder to correct the mistakes. Our service department charges a reasonable fee for the work. Minor issues are billed as 1 hour of labor (in 2024: €75).

What does the kit include?

The price includes all necessary parts to build the amplifier. Does not include a speaker or wooden cabinet.

What do I get for the money?

You get a beautifully sounding boutique amplifier that will last at least the next 100 years at a very affordable price. At only a fraction of the cost of the cheapest proper tube amplifiers, less than half the price of robot-assembled failure-prone China-made amplifiers, and even below the combined retail price of the kit’s components.

What kind of tools do you need to build this kit?

Basic tools are enough, but especially beginners should invest in reasonably good quality tools.

Especially the soldering station and solder need to be good enough to ensure high-quality solder joints. Always buy a soldering station from a proper electronics store that can advise you on the right type for this kind of work.
