When the gain is set to minimum and tone is bypassed the tone remains unchanged. Amplification stage is simple class-a mosfet common source stage, which input impedance is really high (5 Mohm). This keeps the sound clear. Circuit is similar as traditional tube amp inputstage. On transistor based circuits, the mosfet is most similar to real tube sound.
