UralTone solid-state Pännäri Revenge Pre - kit - pre-order
The UralTone Solid-State Pännäri Revenge Pre and integrated are our first completely tubeless amplifiers.
We have combined the best parts of the semiconductor world and the end result is a beautiful sounding preamp, with enough power and properties suitable for almost any application. The goal was to make as sweet sounding product as possible in the same way as in our tube amps, but in a smaller size, with versatile features.
The design project was carried out in collaboration with long-standing audio designer Mauri Pännäri. Mauri Pännäri was responsible for the audio design of the preamp. The UralTone team designed the circuit boards, the enclosure, selected and tested the power stage (integrated version), designed and coded the switching system, and combined the various components into a functional whole.
The final product was approved both by Mauri Pännäri after careful listening and measuring and by the UralTone design team after home listening and assessments.
Mauri Pännäri designed for us a RIAA and a line preamp that adheres to his basic principles. The circuit is kept simple: minimizing the number of gain stages, selecting circuits topologies from not only the best known but also those that are self-verified and improved upon, and focusing on the best musical sound instead of just obsessive minimizing of distortion. So what does this mean?
The preamplifier accurately reproduces the nuances of each recording without being at all hard or sterile. This amplifier can be listened to for hours without listening fatigue. This is one of the most important goals in all our audio devices.
The entire preamplifier is ultimately designed on the basis of FET-driven operational amplifiers. Mauri Pännäri went through measuring and listening to a large number of potential operational amplifiers that are available on the market (both FET and bipolar inputs, parts which tolerate gain values of 1 and those especially suitable for audio) and decided on the best and most suitable types. The kit comes with TLE207X series FET op amps that sound really good. These are also very good choices for RIAA noise characteristics.
For the line level and tone control circuit, the user can try out the recommended options for different operational amplifiers and choose while listening to their preferences, or leave in the provided ones and enjoy the music. The choice is up to you. There are differences in specs, measurement results, and in the auditory image. Regardless, all the recommendations work very well.
The tone control circuit operates at lower and higher frequencies than usual, allowing the bass control to adjust the bass level to suit the speakers and, most importantly, the room. The treble control gives more airiness and brightness to the sound. The tone control circuit can be bypassed by pressing the treble potentiometer.
The prototype listening grind took almost a year after the final decisions on the product were made.
The preamplifier input selector is implemented with self-coded intelligence, which allows us to use high-quality relays (located behind the switches) and very stylish pushbuttons. The solution offers a lower level of interference compared to a traditional switch, where the audio signal is input to the front panel, and significantly better operating comfort.
The device has a place for a bluetooth receiver and instructions for connecting it. We tested with a Sure bluetooth receiver and the system works well. Inside the device you will find the operating voltage and audio connections for the bluetooth module.
The case is made and designed in Finland from powder-coated aluminum. Wooden ends are sold separately.
The UralTone Solid-State Pännäri Revenge pre kit includes all the necessary parts to assemble a working device. The parts have been carefully selected for this circuit from reliable manufacturers. We do not save on using inferior quality components, as it would be odd to invest time and energy in a construction project whose quality is ruined by saving a few euros in parts.
RIAA input with Pännäri circuit
3 x line input Pännäri circuits
Bypassable treble / bass - Päänäri tone control circuit
Input routing with relays
Optional Bluetooth (uses one input point)
Wooden ends available as an option
A layout image and a parts list are included. We publish more detailed instructions on our website, which are used to support the construction.
We provide unlimited technical support via email. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide telephone or in-store support for our kits.
UralTone Solid-State Integrated is relatively easy to build thanks to its high quality circuit board. We can recommend the project to beginners. Unlike tube amplifiers, the operating voltages are low, so the project is also suitable for those who are afraid to measure voltages above 400V.
Construction takes about a day for a professional, more for a hobbyist. The most important thing to remember is to focus and follow the instructions carefully.
